January 9
Do you have any memories that have not yet happened? You wonder if they are memories of dreams, or books or movies, hints from other lives you've lived or visions of the future. Something in the texture of these thoughts lets you know they're special. Maybe you remember them from a perspective that is older than you are and yet they seem to have always been in your consciousness, you don't remember a time when you did not have them.
I have one where I'm at some sort of spiritual sanctuary. There are graceful women talking and we are sitting in a tree-ringed glade. Deer peek in from between the trees and I know that they are revered friends. There is something significant about that, about it all, something that tells me I am only glimpsing part of the story, a peek in the crystal ball.
Ananda is to us a sanctuary and in a very delightful way we seem to be growing into this memory. There is a doe that has been part of our lives for at least three years now. We have seen her raise three sets of fawns. Some of them have stayed so that most of the time there are seven to eleven deer on the property. There's Mama, her two youngest and several other does, each with a yearling or two. We have a clearing in the meadow where four cherry trees, autumn olive and oleander bushes have formed a ring. We've planted evergreens that will someday fill in the gaps. Women, indeed, are drawn to Ananda, among them my daughter and her friends, no longer children, but not quite fully women. All of these things make me wonder if there will be a moment some Spring in the future when I'll know that I have met my memory, and that it was vision.
Enjoy, Susan
