The achy prelude to full-fledged flu dragged at me yesterday. My head was throbbing, sinuses filling--you know the feeling. I left my desk early and lay down to rest. I did not fight what was happening to my body or in my mind. I just observed and listened.
After about an hour, a light thought came: I accept healing. That thought felt so good I thought it again with variations: I accept the well wishes of friends, I accept the sweetness of my daughter's hugs, I accept the warmth of this room, I accept the smiles of strangers, I accept the blessings that came in Christmas cards, I accept this life and its opportunities, I accept the nourishment in the food I eat, I accept the grace showered on me from God though all sources both seen and unseen.... As I accepted, appreciation and gratitude washed though me and with them came a deep relaxation, a letting go. This surrender increased the body's healing energy and in another hour, when I rose for dinner, I found I was no longer ill.
I think of those suffering from the Tsunami. I accept the blessing that I am with my family and we are well. In the face of all that was swept away, we were not. I accept the preciousness of this life and the opportunity to give, to be a healer.
You are also a healer: you cannot deny this if you have ever had a cut mend, a flu pass, sadness turn to joy or hope return. You heal yourself and you offer gifts that others use to heal themselves: bandages, soups, hugs, love, listening ears, donations, prayers.... Let us accept this role as healer in this time of great need. Let us give abundantly in every way we can. Let us also accept, that in the same way our body heals through miraculous processes we cannot consciously comprehend, the help we offer others sets in motion processes of power, delicacy and precision that are beyond our comprehension, processes that are indeed miracles. Acceptance, appreciation and gratitude increase this power in our lives and in our world.
Let us hold together the vision that a wave of compassion will now rise in the world so great that it will transform this planet into a place where all people may live in peace, plenty and joy. Let this be the gift we receive from the passing of so many precious lives.
Blessed be, Susan
