Around Ananda
|
Returning from vacation, catching up, easing in. I looked out my window this morning and
watched a chipmunk preening herself on the rock wall below, her white belly
exposed, comfortable performing her morning routine beside my home. All day
they came, the mama raccoon to my window to raid the bird feeder, the fox in
the clearing at the back of the pond, the baby woodchuck up on our patio
I
could see them all from my desk as I sorted through little mysteries with
paper and talked on the black phone. I did not have to move an inch to see
them, only occasionally Id rise for a better view over the heads of the
profuse cone flowers and Black-Eyed Susan, or further off beyond the daisies, Queen Annes Lace and day lilies.
Later we took a walk and the flowers were overwhelming: butterfly bush,
milkweed, something new called a balloon flower... I'm sure there were
millions, if you counted them, millions of flowers. Everywhere that is not
mowed down, is blooming. The black raspberries still swell with sweetness.
The mallard mama with her large white domestic partner cruised the pond with
the babies between them. The deer did not rise from their grassy bed as we
passed by them on the path. They merely watched us, secure in the ability
to slip out of sight into the dense undergrowth that is in full season now.
Abundance, sweetness, home. Ananda. I am back.
Enjoy, Susan
