We left for a spring get-away with the pond still frozen and winter holding tight even as
robins and chipmunks mocked at its seeming certainty. We returned a week later to
sunshine and 75 degrees. There is not an inch of ice anywhere and I too am liquid,
uncertain in my fluidity. I seem to slide around corners and slip into nooks. I'm looking
for my edges but there are only these muddy flats and lapping consciousness. It feels so
good but as I seep into the earth I wonder if I'll disappear completely and drain right out
of time and space. Well, so be it, such is spring!
